Understanding Group Short-Term Disability Insurance

1 out of 4 20 year olds can expect to become disabled before reaching retirement age*

Why do I need Short-Term Disability Insurance?

If you have a temporary illness or injury that could keep you out of work, Group Short-Term Disability Insurance from WAEPA will cover a portion of your paycheck for up to six months.

A Steady Income, Even if You Can’t Work

As a WAEPA member, you can apply for benefits of up to $6,500 a month to help replace your income while recovering from a short-term disability. This is limited to up to 60% of your average monthly income. The supplemental income will help create a safety net for you and your family.

Available Exclusively For Feds, By Feds

This valuable protection is reserved for current and former Civilian Federal Employees between the ages of 18 and 65 who are actively working at least 30 hours a week.

Income Protection When You Need It

WAEPA now offers QuickDecision underwriting for Short-Term Disability. Feds under 50 can secure coverage in minutes.

Up to $6,500 in Monthly Benefits

Receive a monthly income if a covered disability keeps you from working. Apply for benefits from $100 to $6,500, in $100 increments.

Decide When Coverage Begins

Choose a 14- or 30-day elimination period when you apply, and you only have to wait 14 or 30 days after becoming disabled before monthly benefits are paid out.

Tax-Free Benefits
